IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines/14 April 2012 by Paulnazer Lontua—Twenty-year old Mhealjohn Auditor, son of a village councilor in this town, was finally released by his abductors after a month-long captivity.

Auditor was kidnapped on 11 March this year, and was finally released at 2 o’clock early dawn today, in the municipal waters of Payao town, this province.

Mhealjohn was retrieved by his father, Barangay Kagawad Gabriel Auditor with the assistance of the authorities in an area of fish cages in the waters of Barangay Bulawan in Payao.

According to reports from the 102nd Infantry Brigade, the father informed the authorities that there was a great possibility that his son (Mhealjohn) was with his kidnappers and are willing to release the victim after receiving a report on the presence of armed men at the said area.

At around 5:00 o’clock in the morning, the victim was found all alone in the fish cages’ area of the said Barangay and was immediately brought to the custody of the authorities.

According to Mhealjohn, he was left by the kidnappers at around 2AM, and stayed in the area waiting for somebody to see him and somehow help him get home.

The victim also disclosed that during the days of his captivity, he was blindfolded and was prohibited to look or even have a glance at the faces of his captors.

“My days seemed nights because I was blindfolded and I can’t see a thing,” said Auditor.

Col. Gerardo Barrientos, Commanding Officer of the 102nd IB, said in a press conference that the kidnappers were forced to release the victim due to the ongoing pressures that the authorities are doing around the province.

It was also revealed by the victim that he was told by his kidnappers that they were somewhere in Basilan but the authorities are yet to confirm and determine the veracity of the statement.

“We are yet to verify the issue through our follow-up investigation in order for us to identify the group who is responsible for his (Mhealjohn) kidnapping,” Barrientos added.

The elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are now conducting debriefing sessions with the victim.  Meanwhile, Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Rommel Jalosjos, also assured the family of the victim that the local government of Sibugay will give assistance to the victim and his family.  (Paulnazer Lontua, The PhilSouth Angle)
