ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines/22 April 2012 by Sheila Covarrubias—A young task group member, PO1 Alianafia R. Mariwa was slightly wounded at Sampaloc Drive in Talon-talon, this city, during a crime bust operation shortly before 3 in the afternoon.

The Police Special Operation Task Group Crime Buster, led by PInsp. Mohamar R. Mariwa swooped the area in the course of its operation against lawless elements when a certain Jay Isnani fired at the young Mariwa. The incident prompted the group to retaliate and gunned down Isnani, a known carnapper yesterday neutralized a suspected carnapper in line with its stepped up drive against criminal elements in the city.

As this developed, Mayor Celso Lobregat commended the wounded Mariwa for his courageous act and encouraged him to continue on discharging his mandated duties despite the risks for the interest of Zamboanga City.

The Chief Executive visited the policeman at the hospital where the latter was rushed for treatment, to personally convey his commendations. He said the young Mariwa appears to be in high spirit despite his wounds and that the latter wants to recover swiftly so he can rejoin his group in running after criminal elements.

Recovered from Isnani’s possession was a 45 caliber pistol which he used to shoot Mariwa, who is now out of danger.

Lobregat emphasized that the Talon-talon operation yesterday formed part of the overall effort to solve crime incidents in the city.

The same operation, he said, proves that the authorities with the support of the local government are not resting and are doing all they can to address the security challenges besetting the city. (Sheila Covarrubias)
