DIPOLOG CITY, Zamboanga del Norte/26 April 2013–It was with the tasty vision of Ms. Mariles C. Regencia that urged her to put up a bakeshop in 2001. To highlight her avid drive and passion for baking, the owner named it ‘Care Cakes and Pastries’ which she formally opened on January 2002.

The bakeshop since has drawn a significant number of customers in and out of Turno, Dipolog City. Their delicious cakes and delectable native products have earned the customers’ loyalty and patronage. On top of that, the bakeshop continues to strive for quality service.

As the enterprise yearns to produce good quality products, the owner applied for innovation support assistance from the Department of Science and Technology – IX (DOST-IX).  The project proposal was recently approved under the DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

Through the project, the firm is expected to improve its production facility, specifically on (1) system improvement; (2) product improvement; (3) manpower development; and (4) process improvement.  The total cost of intervention is Two Hundred Sixty Two Thousand Pesos  (Php 262,000.00) which will cover acquisition of dough mixer, bread slicer, stainless steel working table, proofing rack, siopao steamer, and counter-type bread showcases.

DOST IX’s interventions will improve/standardize product quality; increase the volume of production by 20%; create jobs locally; increase income by at least 20%; and meet customers’ demand of the products in the market.

SETUP is a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in implementing technological innovations and improvements in their operations to boost their productivity and competitiveness.
