ZAMBOANGA CITY, 25 November 2015 by Sheila Covarrubias—Two public elementary schools in the city are now in the Hall of Fame, as they bagged the 2015 Brigada Eskwela National Awards for the third time at the Tanghalang Pasigueno in Pasig City.

Putik Elementary School and Catalina Vda de Jalon Memorial Elementary School are national awardees for the big school category and exceptional school category, respectively. They are consistent winners in the Brigada Eskwela for the last 3 years.

“Brigada Eskwela,” is an annual school maintenance activity led by the DepEd in line with the department’s mission to provide safe and clean learning spaces for Filipino learners.

The weeklong Brigada Eskwela, themed “Tayo Para sa Kalinisan, Kaligtasan at Kahandaan ng ating mga Paaralan,” kicked off last May 18 and was aimed at preparing schools for the coming school year and to promote volunteerism among the members of the community.

As this developed, Mayor Beng Climaco congratulated Putik Elementary School headed by Dr. Lepidaptera Villanueva and Catalina Vda de Jalon Memorial Elementary School in Tumaga headed by Dr. Victoriano Miguel Jr. and thanked them for the honor they have given to Zamboanga.

The mayor commended City Schools Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad for properly guiding public schools and for his commitment to education.
She stressed that her administration remains committed to education as it continues to support public schools in a bid to ensure quality education for the children.  (Sheila Covarrubias)
