West Metro Medical Expo kicks off

ZAMBOANGA CITY/14 July 2016 by Frencie Carreon–The Medical Symposium and Expo 2016 organized by West Metro Medical Center this morning kicked off, with City Mayor Maria Isabel Climaco-Salazar opening the exhibits followed by the formal program.

This is the first time that the new hospital is reaching out to the regional public, through doctors across the region. According to West Metro Medical Center Marketing Manager Monabelle Blanco-Delgado, about 200 doctors from the Zamboanga Peninsula, and neighboring island groups Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, are in attendance.

Among the plenary sessions are discussions on Forging Partnerships: Medical and Surgical Management of Arthritis, with Dr. Melissa Aquino-Villarin and Dr. Jose Fernando Syquia as lead speakers; Maximizing Management in Urolithiasis, with Dr. Gavino Mercado, Jr. as resource speaker; Mers-Cov: Still a Threat to Region 9 and ARMM? with Dr. Enrique Tayag as main speaker; Management in Diabetes: Consistent an Tighter Control, with Dr. Fatma Tiu as speaker.

Other invited speakers are scheduled to address the audience of medical doctors, students, and specialists tomorrow. Held at the Garden Orchid Convention Center, attendance to the 2-day event provides 10 Continuing Medical Education (CME) Units to members of the Philippine College of Physicians, and 45 CME units to members of the Philippine Medical Association.
