New Zambo hospital holds Medical Symposium and Expo 2016

ZAMBOANGA CITY/14 July 2106/by Wemaflor Tinasas, Jean Patrick Gonzales, and Rosette Paragas–-The West Metro Medical Center in consortium with the Delos Santos Medical Center and in cooperation with Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of Zamboanga City held a two-day Regional Medical Symposium and Expo on July 14 and 15.

The event headed by Ramon H. Diaz, President and CEO, West Metro Medical Center, aims to enhance and develop the quality of hospital services, equipments and facilities to cater the people with the best health care and to improve the health situation in Region IX and provinces in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.

Department of Health Assistant Secretary Enrique Tayag led the panel of speakers in the event.  He addressed Zamboanga media in a press conference, along with Nilo C. Delos Santos, Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer of Delos Santos Medical Center, and Wilhelmina Hocson, Medical Director of West Metro Medical Center.

“Actually, what we bring here with us is the advances and the technology. I’m not saying that it’s not available locally but I’d rather say proudly that the expertise and knowledge what we have learned that may be applied in the local setting; that is the intention of doing this particular activity,” Dr. Delos Santos said.

During the press conference, Dr.Tayag also highlighted the case of those tested positive in prohibited drugs which is one of the challenges in the medical field today. He noted that there is an increase in the need of rehabilitation centers to provide a better service for those who are willing to change.

Dr.Tayag appealed to those medical practitioner graduates of the region who work outside to return especially to Zamboanga City because the city needs their service. (Wemaflor Tinasas, Jean Patrick Gonzales, and Rosette Paragas, The PhilSouth Angle)
