ZAMBOANGA CITY/19 August 2016 by Sheila Covarrubias—Mayor Beng Climaco expressed agreement to the proposal of President Rodrigo Duterte to launch an all year-round lifestyle check of government officials including police and military in a bid to eliminate corruption in the bureaucracy.

The lifestyle check, according to Climaco should not only be among police, military and government officials but also all employees of  the city government.

“This should be done not only through the compliance of the Statement of Assets and Liabilities (SALN) but we must make sure that the data placed in the SALN are correct and true,” the mayor said in an interview over a television station Thursday.

She said this is very important as it is one of the measures to stop corruption activities in government.

President Duterte, who has adopted corruption as one of his platforms of government, has warned government officials and employees of sanctions to include going to prison, if they would not stop their corrupt practices.

In his earlier pronouncements, the president has cited in particular Customs and Internal Revenue executives who are engaged in corrupt activities. (Sheila Covarrubias)
