ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines/ Christian Olasiman–District I Representative Beng Climaco pleads for the safe release of kidnapped teachers from Landan Gua and Naga, in Zamboanga Sibugay.
“These teachers have dedicated their lives in teaching the students even if they don’t earn a lot which sometimes cannot even help in making both ends meet. The government also maintains a no ransom policy, so in the light of humanitarian reasons, I appeal on the captors to safely release the kidnap victims” stated Climaco.
“We recognized the efforts of our local government units and the police in helping us out in this situation. We celebrate the release of some of the ICRC workers but we still deeply share the sentiments of the families of the kidnapped teachers who, until now, are still worried about the state of their family members. We pray for their safe release.”
As an educator, Cong. Climaco shared that teachers who devoted their time and efforts in educating the children especially those in far-flung areas amidst their own plight do not deserve this kind of suffering.
Climaco met with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for a briefing in the kidnapping situation in Southern Mindanao recently. PGMA urged local executives to support the measures done by the Philippine National Police in tracking down the captors and retrieving the kidnap victims.
The Office of Rep. Climaco in her initiative to respond to this social quandary launched the Barangay Emergency Network Group (BENG) in the barangays in District I to help maintain the peace and order situation in the city and to encourage citizen participation in combating criminalities like kidnapping.
