Crime witnesses point finger at Patikul official’s bodyguard

JOLO, SULU, Philippines/18 June 2010—The bodyguard of a barangay chairman now Patikul Municipal Councilor-Elect Datu Ahmad Albani is identified by witnesses for having shot to death a certain Eric Sarih and Julhani Pakkal this morning in Patikul town, Sulu province.
The shooting transpired at about 10:15 today at the residence of Albani at Barrio Bukog-turo in Latih, Patikul.
Former Municipal Councilor Jimmy Sali intervened and spearheaded an initial investigation which revealed that the shooting incident was triggered by a heated discussion between Albani and the two victims for non-payment of the full amount of a supposed contract of sale on gravel.  Albani, as buyer, was due to settle his obligation of P31 thousand to Sarih, but was only offering P21 thousand.  Sarih, angered over the P10 thousand deficit, demanded full payment, and uttered unpleasant and vulgar words.
Patikul police reported that at the height of the fiery verbal arguments, the bodyguard and relatives of Albani shot the victims using M-16 rifles, killing the victims instantly.
Police said one of the men of Datu Ahmad Albani, identified as a certain Lando Narthha, was hit by stray bullets on his right leg and was brought to the Sulu Integrated Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.  The victims were brought to their respective residences at cirumferential road in Latih, Patikul, for immediate burial, as per Islamic rites.
Police said no further retaliatory incident transpired for the rest of the day, however, they are on the watch for the likelihood of rido.  (TPSA)
